How about the Rezillos, they're a candidate for the best band to ever exist, they deserve more recognition:

Iggy Pop:
This first one is a great live version of "The Passenger", one of the best rock songs ever performed, but it isn't the Stooges as the title says.

Slaughter & The Dogs, and Eater:

(this one is titled Eater but Slaughter and the Dogs are the first band, and Eater is the second, and the sound on theirs is a little sketchy)

Ok, well, I know a lot of people know about them but I can't resist,
QUEEN!!!!
I mean seriously, Freddie has like a four-octave range and I can't even hit half the notes he has, and then Roger hits the notes he can't which is like wooaahhh insane! In Bohemian Rhapsody, Roger hits a B flat in the 6th octave! And then, listen to Breakthru, and just listen to Deaky's insane Bass skills, and then Invisible Man, and Brians insane solo! I mean, he made that up as he went along and they were all like 'woah. thats new'.
Yeah, thats insane talent right there.
=]
And sorry if thats what you meant by mainstream crap, because the first person also mentioned them, although they should NOT be in that list with all that other crap!
Some other great bands are,
The Eagles, The Wings, The Beatles, AC/DC, Beck, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, Heart, The Ramones, The Doors, etc.

HaHa, bull crap! So true.
NittleGrasper is right about Final Fantasy, he's really amazing. Plus, he has an album called "He Poos Clouds"!! How great is that?
Bat For Lashes are pretty great. They've got a really original, weird sound. Definitely one of the best albums of the year. And I'm really looking forward to the release of Fight Like Apes' new EP, "David Carradine is a Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch".
