I do remember reading about them. I know that some people that were so poor, put their children on them because they couldn't feed them These trains were in the year 1850, overcrowded orphanges and homes sent the youth to New York to begin a better life. The results were mixed

My father's cousin was on one of them, Thats all I know, I have read a little about them. Originally bogarts bio said he was on an orphan train but noticed its been changed, at least the one i looked at the other day was changed.

He was supposed to have been on one of the trains with his brother Walter Bogart but thats lost history

Cousin I fell off from one of those train, ended up working for room an board, but it sure was better than what them thar city folk was willing to do fer me.

but that was many miles ago.

and I don't know why some folk seen to think it was a turnip truck I fallen off en.

My Lord,I never heard of it til today.I will surely look it up.My Grandfather was reared in an orphanage up North til 13.Thanks for the info.

I have read that as they came into stations people took the children off to do farm work in exchange for food and board.

There are several good books written on the subject by researchers and by children who rode these trains.

Check your local library or major book store.

I think Amazon might have them also.

I heard a little about them & could only imagine what was going through those children's minds as they rode that train.
