What actual hard data that does exist shows that cranberry juice can be used to prevent UTI's in healthy individuals, but that it is not effective against an existing UTI.

Antibiotics do not cause a UTI. They can cause overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, i.e., a yeast infection.

You don't mention what symptoms cause you to believe this a UTI, so the advice we can provide you is limited.

Do you have a thick white cottage-cheese like discharge (I know, yuck) and a lot of itching? This may indeed be a yeast infection, or "yeast vaginitis". If so, you may see your physician for medication, or you can simply use one of the many over-the-counter yeast infection treatments available.

that sounds a bit odd since they usually give you antibiotics when you get your wisdom teeth out. I'm prone to UTIs and I dont' think cranberry juice makes a difference, but i'm not a doctor. I suggest just drinking a lot so your bladder and the rest of that system isn't just sitting and letting bacteria grow. There is an over the counter med that works for minor ones...i think it's called cystex.

Cranberry juice and all high acid juices do, in fact, help prevent and calm down UTIs. If the UTI is in full bloom ouch!!, you'll need an antibiotic and probably not the one you got from the surgeon. Stop drinking soda--it makes things worse. Drink cranberry or get it in a pill form (with the vitamins), and use Azo to help any pain. If it goes away quickly, great, otherwise you can e-mail me for a folk remedy or go see the dr.

I think it does help a little but if you DO get a UTI, you need to call your doctor's office. The doctor on call for the weekend can call you in a prescription to your local pharmacy. They may try to get you to wait until Monday to be seen in the office but pitch a major hissy fit and say you are in sooo much pain and CANNOT WAIT! It's worked for me many times:)
