you can find the answers to all of these Q's online. but i'll be cool and answer a couple for you.

1) volcanoes occur for 2 reasons. one is because of a subduction zone and partial melting. the other reason is because of a hot spot. you can look up the specifics.

2) mercalli scale deals with the perceived amount of shaking. shown in roman numerals. the richter scale is more definite, but is only good for souther cali earthquakes, and a wood-anderson seismograph (and there aren't any in existance that work anymore, so the richter scale is DEAD.). any of the other types of measuring systems for earthquakes all are equated back to what it would be on a richter scale, but when the media says "that was a 4.5 on the richter scale.." they're wrong.

You are obviously capable of typing out the questions...so why stop here? How about actually trying a search engine to get the answers for your homework?

If you can't be troubled to open your book, every last one of these can be answered using Google or Wikipedia.
