General Santa Anna's army attacked the Alamo, which was defended for 13 days by a very small number of Texans. The ones you've probably heard of are William Travis, Davy Crockett, and Jim Bowie. Everyone died.

The Alamo is right here in San Antonio, Texas. You can read about it in your History books. Dennis Quaid, Jason Patric and Billy Bob Thorton were in a movie about the Alamo in 2004, but it was filmed on a huge set constructed specifically for “The Alamo.” Even so, the premier screening was in San Antonio at the Majestic and the Banquet were set up with tight security around the tents about the Alamo. I was there. It was very cool. As for the film itself, even though the actors are pretty decent, the movie itself sucked and got bad reviews. There is a city named Alamo in the northern portion of the state of New Mexico. It has nothing to do with the history of the great fight against Santa Ana for the freedom of Texas.

Bowie, Travis, Crockett. Quiet a few others. No one knows the real story how it fell. But most the defenders died killing, old and young. At least two of the best Regiments in the Mexican army were decimated to the point of being wiped out storming it. And yes some defenders did try to escape by the river and were hunted down by Mexican Lancers. Crockett may have been executed after surrendering. He fought all the siege, and by all Mexican accounts if he did surrender, they offered him an Honorable surrender to avoid more casualties. He took it and Santa Anna ordered him killed over the protests of the officer who persuaded him to surrender. Nothing dishonorable in that.
