I'm having trouble understanding an essay topic in my American Government class and I was wondering if any of you could help me out a little. This isn't the direct question, but if I can understand this, I'm thinking that the topic will be easier to understand. Thanks for your help.

Tough question because... do you mean what a president's doctrine is suppose to be or what is Bush Jr's specific doctrine.

I will answer both to be thorough.

First let's define doctrine:
Doctrine (Latin: doctrina) is a code of beliefs or "a body of teachings" or "instructions", taught principles or positions, as the body of teachings in a branch of knowledge or belief system.

Now to answer the question:

1. Any president of the USA's doctrine is suppose to simply be the Constitution of the United States of America. It is that simple. His or her personal beliefs are not suppose to take part in decisions for the country. The Constitution is the backbone of our great nation.

2. Bush Jr's doctrine is personal and has not followed the Constitution. His specific doctrine appears to evolve around doing any activity that will accrue oil and power for the wealthiest Americans.
