Is there cable available? The internet is available via cable companies, telephone companies and satelitte (requires home phone as well).

Cable internet is available with your cable TV line as an addon service. Don't know of any offering it as a separate service (ask).

Some telephone companies do offer the internet hookup (high speed) without having them as your telephone number provider, but not many do this (call and ask). Usually they like to do both as a package deal. Same with the cable companies they like to bundle deals so you take more services.

Some phone companies offer a deal for a follow me service that makes cheaper cell rates. You have a home phone and a cell from the same provider and when your away from home the calls are automatically routed to the cell. If you have internet service with them then all calls to the home phone are routed to the cell when you're online. Although this usually is not necessary for ASDL as the line can be split to allow the phone to be used at same time as being online.

Call the cable, telephone providers (or go online to their web sites) and get info and ask questions.

No, you do not need a house phone to have access to the Internet.

There are other choices available. Cable for example or a wireless access device such as what is offered by most Telco's. I use Sprint and I am wireless and free to access the Internet whereever I go but all this will cost ya!!!

Maybe WiFi? You would need someone with a Laptop with wifi to check out your place for signals. They are very short range (300 Yards usually, less in thick buildings) but many cities are starting to cover popular areas for free. Then you would need a to buy a wifi card to stick in your computer That could be 60 to 100 bucks.

You don't need a phone line to have internet.
Lots of companies provide what is called Dry-DSL
it's more expensive but does not require a phone line
