Please explain to me the differences between a castle and a palace?

a castle was in sleepin' beauty ... a palace was in cinderella! lol ; )

Castles are built for defense and lots of times had villages inside their walls. Palaces are sprawling buildings on huge well landscaped lawns.

A palace is more elegant as opposed to a castle which may have a dungeon or two in it.

A castle has a moat where as a palace does not...I guess...

Casltes are dark and mildewy and built for defense

Palaces are open and grand for daily luxurious living
