Michelle, The Israelis stoile the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and refuses to return theem to their rightful owners. The building of that wall to split the country in two hardly speaks of a balanced modern democracy, does it?
look at last years disastrous raid into Lebanon, what did it achieve? A lot of innocent dead people for what?

Scrappy the Israelis have illegal nuclear weapons, sanctioned by the US, yet when another country in the region tries to develop nuclear weapons, currently iran. The Yanks go running to the UN claiming violations of nuclear agreements. Why are the yanks not proposing to invade and bomb Israel?

twinmum. There was peace in Iraq before George W got the crazy idea that Saddam had WMDs. George W is soley responsible for the mess that has been created in Iraq. There was no Al-Qaeda in Iraq prior to the Yanks going in and making their customary mess of things.

The White House is not run my Muslims nor Buddhists, etc, and the Washington and media elite are neither as well. Get used to it, it's been going on a long time and they will resort easily to murder, execution, blackmail and anything else to retain power and control. Their specialty is fear-mongering, and the public buys it, with help from a willing media. The President on down are in their complete control....mere figureheads. Their friends in the military machine round the world become extremely wealthy from all this. But you dare not say anything, since in many countries you would be thrown in jail or stripped or employment and any honors, such as in Canada. But writing about it here changes nothing, since very few will ever read it.

What would you have the Israelis do?
They are surrounded by people who hate them because they are JEWS - no other reason

The bullies of the middle east have made no secret of the fact that they would like to see Israel wiped off the face of the earth (well they actually mean the Israelis, the land they'd like to keep)

So if you were a Jew living in Israel what would you do?

I also think that your comparison to the Nazis is in extremely bad taste

EDIT
what you say may be true - but it has been the way of the world for thousands of years. nations have had wars and seized territory and are always reluctant to give it back - this is how the map of the world has changed so much over the centuries
However, for 60 years Israel has been a Jewish state
So I ask - what would you do if you had lived there all your life and had made a home there?
This is an emotive subject (as you know) and like the McC issue there is no middle ground - many people around the world hate Israel purely because they are JEWS - not because of their treatment of the Palestinians - I'm sorry I believe that is just an excuse.

While I don't condone the US going into Iraq, would you care to explain why the Moslems in that country keep blowing each other up? They can't get along even among themselves. The US and Israel aren't doing that. And Israel bears no resemblance to the Nazis who took unarmed, productive citizens of their own country and rounded them up and shipped them off to die horribly in a mass genocide.

"There was peace in Iraq before George W got the crazy idea that Saddam had WMDs. George W is soley responsible for the mess that has been created in Iraq. There was no Al-Qaeda in Iraq prior to the Yanks going in and making their customary mess of things."

I agree that GW is responsible for the current mess in Iraq, HOWEVER, Saddam wasn't exactly peaceful either. He attacked Kuwait and the Kurds and ruled by fear.
You still didn't answer my question - why are the Moslems blowing each other up? If they would stop, the US could get out sooner.

The Hague Conventions prohiibit gaining land by way of conflict. The Hague Conventions have been accompanied by ability of all civilized countries interior the early 1900's. Israel has no obvious criminal foundation for all times, much less to be "pounding sand" everywhere. Ignorant individuals who parrot the Zionist social gathering line do extra harm to US hobbies than any perceived stable they could do. With acquaintances like Israel, the U. S. desires no enemies. Mideast oil belongs to the Arabic human beings, it does no longer belong to the U. S., so your factor on the subject of oil is doubtful.

There is a virulent form of evangelical Christianity (dispensationalism) in US, something akin to the loyalist brand in the north of Ireland. They believe that the founding of Israel signals the beginning of the end times - which include rapture, the antichrist, the conversion of all Jews to Christianity (their sect, naturally) and armageddon.

And of course there is also the strong Zionist (not Jewish) lobbyist group, AIPAC, that will destroy any politician who questions support of Israel.

I agree. Its a shame the majority of Americans feel the invasion of Iraq was the right thing to do, because they see it as having some sort of connection to the 9/11 attacks.

Just what makes you think we (Americans) aren't aware of these things? And you would have us do what about it?

It's not like we have any say into what George & Co. do. We are just as helpless against Bush's aggression as you Brits are.

Please stop blaming the majority of Americans for Bush's terrorist actions. If you have any ideas of how to get him out of office before the next election (in which case God only knows if it will get better or not) then please let us know.

Take a deep breath, now calm down. Try reading your history. The Palestinians are the problem, not Israel. The Palestinians like all arabs will not compromize, they want it all or nothing. I know how much these pesky facts keep getting in your way, so just ignore them and you to can be a liberal.
