My friend just married a childhood sweetheart after knowing him for years, but marriage and friendship is totally different and she realises she has made a major mistake. marriage took place a month ago - how easy will it be to get a divorce? Do the same principles apply as a british wedding being dissolved?

It would depend on where she files. It might be easiest to go back to Vegas and file for divorce there but if that's not possible she just needs to contact city hall or the equivalent where she lives to find out what she needs to do.

It is exactly the same as dissolving a marriage that took place in the UK, me and my ex did the whole thing online as there was nothing that needed to be agreed or apportioned.
They will need the wedding certificate which (as I recall) can take a while to be issued and mailed.

Their options will depend on where they live. They will likely have to get divorced. Most states have very specific and limited grounds for annulment (which essentially acts as if the marriage never occurred).

Up to a year after the wedding there is an annul period, where they have the time to annul the wedding before too much happens. It's pretty easy to come by, I don't even think they have to go to court, they just need to go get a lawyer and sign some papers, get them notarized, and have a judge look at them. (I'm not 100% positive about that process, but I DO know that annulation is possible.)
