I've been hiccuping for almost 5 hours now. My hiccups are really loud and seem to come from deep in my gut. My whole body twitches with each hiccup. I've tried swallowing sugar, drinking 2 bottles of water, coughing, holding my breath, putting my head upside down, drinking hot tea, swallowing big gulps of air, and my sister even scared me big time when she told me our mom had a heart attack (even though she didn't). What can I do?

My voice is even wearing out and for some reason I feel really sleepy.

Okay, first thing would be to calm down and to not get scared. Go to a low sink (a regular kitchen one will work). Fill a glass with water, about half way. Now this is the tricky part to explain. Bend your head over the glas, tipping it away from you, and drink from the opposite side of the glass. Drink the entire thing, then go lay down. If they haven't gone away, try again about ten minutes later. While waiting, read or watch TV to get your mind off the hiccups, this will ehlp immensely. The most important thing to do is to remain calm so they don't escelate. If they aren't cured soon, go to the emergency room. This is serious, if hiccups continue too long they can kill you. I have an uncle who died from the hiccups.
If you are becoming sleepy, that means your brain is not getting enough air. This is very serious, you need to go the ER.

Have u tried drinking water upside down, like tipping your head upside down and trying to drink water. When I get hiccups that always stops me. If it doesn't work, they might be gone tommorow, or at least have died down abit.

And Ive had hiccups like all day before, well not all day but most of the day with short break periods.

my cure all for the hiccups is this: fill a large drinking glass 3/4 full. then stand straight, hold the glass between waist and chest level, bend forward and sip from the opposite side of the glass (the side away from you, so that your chin is actually in the glass) you will end up tipping the glass away from your body to reach the water. sip several times before you straighten up. I have never had this fail me yet. My kids call it the "upside down drink"

There's no cure for hiccups, but I swear that holding your breath does the trick. Sometimes it takes a few tries, sometimes it doesn't work at all. I suppose it's true there is no cure. Some people have them for years.

It's caused by a spasm in you diaphragm -- the muscle that controls your lungs. The twitches are involuntary and can't be controlled, but even though there is no "cure", I think holding your breath tends to relax that muscle, and may sometimes help to stop the hiccups.

Have your mom go to the ATM machine and withdraw $100. Have her hold up the money in front of you and say,"If you can hiccup again, I'll give you this money." You won't be able to hiccup again.
