My friend asked me this question. I didn't have any answers for her, only more questions. Like, how exactly would we be cut off from our food supply, and how would people get to the food that was stored?

But she wanted an answer so I just came here...

OH and your answer is basically useless to me unless you CITE SOURCES! THANKS!

Honestly I'm surprised you don't know the answer to that. Really- who do you think supplies so much of the food to the world's population. A better question would be, "What would happen if the US cut off it's food supply to the rest of the world".

Rather than just give you a quick answer that you can support with a source, why don't you read a little here:

How could the food supply be cut off? Unfortunately, it's probably easier now than 30-40 years ago. We rely heavily on "just in time" logistics which means things are not warehoused locally but are delivered just as present stocks are depleted. This in turn depends or ridiculously cheap energy for affordable, on-demand transportation. An oil embargo would put us in hurting status in a big hurry.

The answer to how long we'd last would vary widely between different locations, the season when it happened and so on. I wouldn't want to be in St. Paul, MN if that happened in January for instance, but Alabama would be a different story altogether.

THe US is the only country in the world capable of providing food for it's entire population.

How are you planning on cutting the US off from it's food supply when it is a natural resource?????

I heard on the History Channel that we'd have at least 60 days of fuel and about a month's worth of food.

you city folks will starve to death within 2 months. If you come to the country and try to steal my fishing and hunting spots you will die sooner.
