The far hemisphere was first photographed by the Soviet Luna 3 probe in 1959, and was first directly observed by human eyes when the Apollo 8 mission orbited the Moon in 1968

Shame on Pink Floyd for naming their album "Dark Side of the Moon". The should have called it "Far Side of the Moon".
What really is on the 'dark side of the moon? The same thing that is on the bright side of the moon. That is: dust and rocks and sand and craters and mountains and lava plains, only much colder. The true dark side of the moon, as mentioned above, is constantly shifting as the moon rotates on its axis just like Earth. The Sun is constantly rising somewhere on the Moon, brightening up some erstwhile Dark Side.
The phrase "Dark Side of the Moon" is actually a colloquialism for "Far Side of the Moon"; a unique astronomical phenomenon caused by the fact of the Moon's rotational period being almost exactly equal to the Moon's period of revolution around Earth (both being of about a month in length; the words "month" and "moon" having common origins in how long it takes the Moon to go through all its phases around the sky)
There are more craters on the far side of the moon than on the close side of the moon supposedly because the far side has been more exposed to bombardment by debris in our solar system, and it may have actually prevented our planet from being nailed on a couple of occasions even if it didn't stop that one that killed off the dinosaurs, making way for Class Mammalia, and eventually HomoSapiens, to dominate and pollute our beautiful blue planet.
So let's put the blame for global warming where it should rightly lie: ... on "The Dark Side of the Moon".

Pink Floyd aside, there is no permanently "dark" side of the moon.
The moons rotation around the Earth is also the same period as it' own rotation, in other words a lunar "day" and a lunar "year" are the same amount of time. As such there is a side of the moon that we call the "far side of the moon", it is never seen from observers on Earth and was not photographed until the Russians sent a probe around the Moon. Like the "near side" it is heavily cratered.

It's a misconception that there's a 'dark side' of the Moon. Really, there's only a far side. Since the Earth and the Moon are tidally-locked, we can't see it from Earth; it is, however, illuminated just as often as the near side. The Apollo missions and lunar probes have photographed it and found that it is more heavily-cratered and has fewer maria (ancient lava plains) than the near side.

The "dark side of the Moon" is constantly moving and changing as the Moon rotates, just as is the "dark side of the Earth." I guess the answer is "whatever part of the Moon isn't currently in sunlight."

There is no dark side of the moon. The moon rotates once for every revolution around earth, so it has a "day" that lasts about 4 weeks. This means all sides of the moon receive sunlight at some point. There is, however, a far side of the moon which we never see from earth.

The dark side of the moon really isn't dark at all. It's just as light as the side that faces earth... Its just that we can't see it unless we fly around it.
It is also called the "far side of the moon". And we know what's there already... more of the same old moon. Here's a link with a picture of it.
