hahahahaha

yup. one day I was in london walking around and saw a sign on a fence that said "warning: Anti Climb Paint"
so I tried to climb it.

the paint keeps releasing wet, fresh, slippery paint when you apply pressure to it, making it a very very messing and slippery climb.......

it was ALL OVER ME.

billions of billions of stars actually.

we can see the stars in pictures, but wet paint doesn't look wet, so we touch it to try to understand it.
we can't touch stars.
we are a curious bunch of people.

Easy. I have no way to directly verify whether or not it's true about the billions of stars. When I look up at the sky on a clear night, it sure LOOKS like a lot of stars, so I have no reason to doubt them. (Plus I've read a lot of astronomy books that say the same thing).

I don't personally feel the need to verify somebody's assertion that paint is wet, but if you do, I guess it's because you can. This is probably more of a psychology question than an astronomy question, by the way.

because I can't touch the billions of stars. also, in my experience, the wet paint sign is left up much longer than is necessary.
