Darkness on the Edge of Town or Born in the U.S.A

Born in the USA. Bruce Springsteen actually became a little more mainstream with this album. Some of his earlier work, like Nebraska, was very dark and depressing--very stark and real. While that appeals to some, by and large the masses get kind of turned off by that gloomy approach in rock music. Born In the USA still featured some of that trademark starkness...like in My Hometown and the title track, but set the music in a far more upbeat tone to mask all the depressing lyrics.
