Knowing that there is a curriculum to follow, and all teachers have to address all the skills and content the kids need to know for that year, do you think all teachers in the same grade level need to give the exact same homework, tests, projects, spelling words, etc.? Do you think the end result should be the same but how it's done should be left to each individual teacher?

Not sure if my reponses are from parents or teachers, but here in my public school there are tons of parents complaining AND comparing that teachers are doing different things, although the kids get the same content! My point, why did I go to school and even got a Master's in education if I am going to teach cookie cutter style??

impossible.

The work and activities assigned are crafted depending on the group of students. Their needs and abilities need to be dealt with. I only teach seventh grade, and often I vary the activites from class to class simply because of the makeup of a particular period. Some classes have individuals who need extra help, some have students who need to be pushed and often there are advanced students who need enrichment.

Often out-of-the-box curriculum fail because you cannot deal with such diverse needs with a one size fits all curriculum.

it should be chosen by the individual teacher because lets say the class doesn't understand a chapter and you need to take an extra two days to review it . Then the whole curriculum would be messed but then theres the chance the students might already know the stuff in one chapter and can just skip it.

Plus if it was the samework that would cause more cheating
beause students would get the test back with the answers ,and because another class didn't take it. It would be simple for the student who didn't take the test to look at it before the student takes it

Absolutely not. The standards ARE the skills and content the students need. However, the way in which students learn that content doesn't have to be the same. Kids don't learn the same way, so it would be irresponsible for all teachers to approach their classrooms in the exact same way. If teachers aren't given the chance to be professional, their students will suffer.

I think all teachers are different. And the best way to get the material done is to make it enjoyable to learn as well. As far as giving the same work. I would disagree because all teachers have a way to teach the material on a pace. Teachers should do what they like as long as they dont fall behind and as long as they complete the year's requirement of teaching student's.

Teachers are professional people and should be both able and allowed to vary the ins ruction according to curricular guidelines to accommodate their own particular teaching styles.
