The soviet Union during the cold war had the capacity to destroy the United States literally wipe it of the face of the earth. I do think that threat was a whole lot bigger than some religious fundamentalist with a loud mouth and evil intentions.

We are way off too scared about Islamic terrorism in these days. The security measures have been top-class since 9/11 and it's not like there's a terrorist around every corner, not at all. Fear-mongering is bigger threat for Americans than actual terrorism.

It is a threat. However, I think the Americans lack of unity and addiction to comfort and safety is a greater weakness than the threat. Other serious threats are our own arrogance and ignorance.

If you compare how America was in the world wars of the 20th century with how the public is today, maybe you will see how much more we were united and motivated to win then.

Why don't we have Victory Gardems and recycling drives? Why not bring back the draft? Why aren't the sons and daughters of the President and other American leaders volunteering for the war effort? The Bush twins could at least pass out doughnuts and coffee to the troops on their way out the airports and armories.

Leaders should lead by example. Instead, we have many of our leaders squabbling, getting caught for corruption like Governor George Ryan of Illinois, or like that Senator from Idaho getting caught looking for sex in men's bathrooms.

The greatest threat to America is the fiat currency system which is dropping the value of the dollar at breakneck speeds. If this continues America will be a third world country and possibly go thru another Great Depression.

The question is a contradiction of itself. If terrorism could actually threaten a nation, it would not be called terrorism. It would be war or insurgency. Terrorists are called terrorists because they are so few in number and so impotent to truly threaten a nation that all they can do is kill a few people at random in an attempt to frighten people. The total number of Americans who will die from Muslim terrorism ever, is less than the number of Americans who will die today of all causes. 7000 Americans die every day. Over 2 million each year.

The greatest threat to America are people who use fearmongering tactics to further their agenda.

[insert politician here]

Think about it. Spend a now estimated 2.x trillion borrowed dollars to fight a phantom fear called terrorism or spend the same amount of money ACTUALLY improve society.

I wonder how many lives that would have saved...but hey, defense corps and contractors don't get rich by saving lives...

Not at all.

The greatest threat America (USA) faces comes from within, it is the deterioration of family values.

Family is the cell that holds societies together and provides the binding "glue" that allows them to face and resolve challenges. America has been for years on a course towards the dilution of the core family values that propelled its greatness at past times of peril.
