Do you ever go outside on a nice autumn's night, With a clear sky above. In the company of your spouse enjoy a nice glass or two of home made wine? Your under the stars, enjoying a nice brisk air, bundled up next to your best friend which happens to be your spouse (wife in my case, she is my best friend) and look for shooting stars and satellites. And she says, one more glass, do an eskimo kiss and just live life again?

I bought a wine making kit once for Christmas. Little did I know that they had sent me something that looked like raisins and took forever to age!

I did try homemade wine one Christmas party. My former landlord was Croatian and made her own wine. I had one glass of this and my face was numb, I couldn't get this silly grin off my face! They gave me anther glass and I had to scoot down the hallway, with my back to the wall to my apartment, I could not stand up on my own. Man, did I have a HANGOVER that I never ever forgot

Thanks Felines: I would never have thought of that. I used get a headache whenever I drank so I had to give it up completely

The very best wine I ever had was made by a former (Italian) landlord, who used some of the wierdest stuff as flavourings...my most favourite of his was his dandelion wine. It looked wonderful in the glass...a pale straw yellow and clear, and it went down SOOO smoothly.

Wickwire...you CAN'T poison yourself making wine, unless you use a poison fruit or plant to start out with. But if you stick to most berries, and pay attention to what you are doing, you should get a very potable product a couple of years down the road.

You know, Tinman, I just happen to have a very substantial growth of red currant bushes out in a corner of my yard. And kitty corner across from them is a whole bunch of black raspberry canes. No one eats these things except the many birds and critters...maybe I should think about making wine again?

No, but beside gardening and knitting, I may look into this. A lot of people do. I have a perfect shed out the back. Then will have to experiment. This should be fun, You just gave me a new hobby. That's lovely about the Eskimo kiss.

I don't know the first thing about wine, except that our fair commonwealth has some fine wineries, and I've been pestering hubby to take me on a tour of one that's about 50 miles from here. I don't suppose drinking it counts, does it?

You sound like a happy, contented soul. Good for you.

SLK -- I've heard wine is loaded with histamines, and if you're going to drink more than one, you ought to take an antihistamine to forestall that hangover.

I made some sloe gin once and kept it in a dark room for about three years to fully mature, when I remembered it and went to get some to drink it all the bottles were empty. I was telling my son's this and said it must have somehow evaporated. They solemnly agreed then burst out laughing and said they had drunk it about two years before and put the corks back in the bottles.

I tried it once, corked it too soon, and had about 10 gallons of wine explode all over my workshop. It was purple from floor to ceiling. Sure smelled good though. Out of 10 gallons I was able to save about 1 quart. It was very tasty (concord) and was pretty strong. I'll try it again though.

No, but back in the 80s my husband and I with another couple made Kahlua and fruit and berry cordials. We did this for a few months, but none of us were drinkers so we finally just stopped. It was fun for a while.
