My parents are going to see Cirque du Soliel and read in a guide book that they're supposed to tip the usher $20. That sounds just a little pricey.

Don't do it, your seats have already been decided when you booked. They're not going to upgrade you, as they can't put people in another's seat. Tipping ushers is an old custom, however not used in large production shows such as Cirque.

Seems funny after forking over all that money for the ticket that you would have to shell out another $20.00 to get a good seat. I have seen this many times here. I would rather sit in the back than give someone $20. Check to see what kind of seating they have ... some have assigned seats and some don't. Stay away from non assigned seating ... just remember that first come first served does not count when ushers are involved. They purposely seat you in the back if you do not tip them when you hand them your ticket. They expect the bill slipped to them with the ticket. When they look at the ticket they quickly look to see how much you slipped them. They will seat you accordingly. They always have the seats upfront empty until most are seated.

Years ago I was seated in the back of the Sands to see Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. At the next table was John Denver and his wife who arrived late. All the seats upfront were taken by the big tippers. So either be satisfied where you are seated or spend the bucks. The show looks the same no matter where you are seated.

Pricey? I wouldn't tip the usher 10 cents even if he promised me a lap dance! Beware of reading guide books that have in small print at the bottom "Printed by the World Ushers' Guild". You got taken for a ride!

You get what you pay for. If you tip the usher, he'll get you a front row seat. If you don't tip him, you'll be sitting in the back. Bribery works in Las Vegas. Most all the services provided in Vegas are for tips!

Ha! I would NEVER tip them! I never tip them. I play at the river boats here in Indiana and I bet the casinos in Vegas and their payouts aren't much different than the boats I've gone to for 5 years.

Tip them? HA! I laugh in the face of that.

new one to me.
to walk you to a seat does not deserve a tip.
service does demand a tip, however.
