A 16 km diameter asteroid would probably be seen a lot longer than 1 month before impact so for 1 month warning I'd have to say it'd be a long period comet.

So I'll go with something made of Ice and hitting the Earth at 51 km/s (about average for a comet hitting our planet) at 45° (most probably angle) and I'll send it into sedimentary rock.

The sound from the impact will be heard on the other side of the planet and so will the earthquake caused by the impact. That would be a global killer we could do nothing about.

Building a bomb shelter and obtaining several years of food would be a good idea though survival during the period in which the atmosphere is full of soot and dust would probably require quite a bit more than an individual would have. I'd probably prefer to have my shelter on the other side of the world from the impact but even there if you're out in the open you're gonna die.

If there was a 10 mile asteroid NASA would not have to warn us any armature astronomer with a telescope could see it. But I think that there would be nothing we can do except stowaway on a space shuttle and live in the space station.

As fast as I could, I would contact NASA and give them the answer for this HUGE problem. I would tell them to build the biggest missile they can. Next, use a hollow warhead on the missile and fill it with as much Preparation H as possible. And then, fire that baby off! That should take care it.

I would prepear to survive... No matter how wise guys will work to stop the danger... Universe is milions times more powerful than those little beings... I dont mean I dont have faith in them.. I bet they can do all what they can do... but... I prefer to count on myself... and... Maybe its not the movie... but.. maybe someone knows how to move 10 mile wide monster from its trajectory!... I think putting *dynamite* on one side is not enough :)... I bet it can rotate in chaoitc way... surprise!.... Who said it will be easy?... Its reality... :)... Yeah... Its good to smile from fiction... but for now I will tell you that I... have no idea what I would do... I even take panic under consideration.. or simply...enjoing my last days... Nah... the last one is not in my style ;)

There are NEOs that are bigger headed here right now. We have equipment in the air to make them change trajectory so they will miss the Earth.

So your question....I'd do nothing because that will never happen.
