my daughter is only 3 months old and she eats 6-8oz bottles of formula every 4-5 hours, so maybe the ceral would help her!

It varies but I would ask your child's doctor first. He or she will tell you when it's suitable for your little one.

Well I had to start him on Rice Cereal in the bottle about 3 months because my son had severe acid reflux. He was too young to be spoonfed. It was the only way for him to keep down the formula without projectile vomiting and screaming everytime. He was a preemie, and hadnt gainied really any weight. And as soon as I started the cereal he sprouted, right where he should be.He's 4 months now and he's on Oatmeal Cereal and finally had gained weight, no more vomiting or screaming. Before the cereal, he would scream all day and all night long. Dont let anyone else tell you when to start, go with what you feel and your Mothers Instinct. Everybody kept telling me not to do the cereal in the bottle, that its bad for him, I knew it was best to do it, my concern was him gaining weight, and like I said once he started, he gained weight immediatly. So go with your Mothers Instinct!!! Nobody knows your baby like you do!!

Sorry, but I'm confused. What's wrong with her? 5 hours are actually a long time for a baby without food, maybe you could feed her more often? All formula fed babies I know are getting a bottle every 3 hours or so.

Talk to her pediatrician before making any change in her diet.

at 3 months 6-8oz every 4-5 hrs is plenty. Do you expect them to only eat 3 times a day like us already? My son was 8lb 11oz..(now hes 3months old) he takes about the same and thats fine. If your trying to add cereal just so you dont have to feed him more often thats kinda selfish becuase 4-5 hr in between feedings is awsome.. Some babies are still at ever 3-4 hrs at this age. Be happy baby is healthy and dont rush her.

It varies by child. I successfully breast fed my daughter for 6 months. After 6 months, I used a little cereal in formula to get her used to the taste and texture and gradually added more with a slightly larger hole in the nipple. From there it naturally moved to feeding her cereal from a spoon.
With my son, I had a great deal of difficulty breast feeding and moved him to the bottle after 4 weeks. He started on cereal at 3 months.
Each child is different. Pediatricians typically advise waiting until 6 months but some infants are ready for cereal much sooner.
When you go to cereal, always start with rice cereal since infants have far fewer allergies to rice cereal than to other grains.

I gave my first born cereal at 3 months in his bottlke - to help with his sleeping through the night - just a teaspoon will help to curb the appetite - talk to your doctor and your family and friends - just because - everyone has a different interpretation. My first born was 9.4 lbs at birth and was hungry.... so it helped to make him feel satisfied - If I were to just give him his formula - he would have never been happy - Just because his bladder couldn't hold the amount he was happy with. He is 16 yrs old now and very happy and healthy.

That's funny you asked that, i've been trying to decide that same question for my lil guy. I decided 3 months was a good time. So actually today is when i'm going to give my baby cereal. And we'll see how he does with that, then next month we'll try bottled food.

I gave my son rice cereal with formula when he was less than two months old. He was a large baby and just not getting enough from the formula.

i asked my health visitor the other day, and she advised me that the recommended is 6months.. but if you feed her earlier, then to give her things that are simple.. as the more complex proteins and things you give them, they develop allergies.. so rice, cereal.. all sugar, salt, and gluten free is the safest option.. i wouldnt give them eggs, and other complex foods, until reaching 6months, when their systems are a little more mature.. my mom fed me egg when i was 4months.. i now live with a deadly egg allergy for the rest of my life. i know alot of people who have started their baby on cereal at 3months.. but then again, your baby may not take to it, or may not be ready until you try.. i would wait for the 4months, thats what im doing.. i got two weeks to go before i try her with cereal. good luck !
