Mays' last appearance in the regular season was 09-September-1973 for the Mets in Montreal. He started the game at first base, went 0-2 with two walks.

His last game ever was Game 3 of the 1973 World Series, in NY against Oakland, on 16-October. In the bottom of the tenth with two out, he pinch-hit for the pitcher, and grounded into a fielder's choice forceout. The A's won in eleven, 3-2, and took the Series in seven games.
