Well the word "Oppressive" means - causing discomfort by being excessive, intense, elaborate, etc.: So with this in mind being "Oppressive" to women is similiar to being Brutal / Mean Towards Women.

Why are you asking questions? Shouldn't you be doing the dishes or something? Mind you this isn't how I think, but that is an example of being oppressive to women. Discouraging them to do things simply because they're women. It's a P4|\/||\| shame that there are still people and cultures in the world that do this. That's right, I'm lookin' at you Chauvin!

It means to keep women from reaching their full potential... For instance...

Interpretations of religions that keep a woman from receiving medical care because the doctor is a male and they can't speak to another man besides their husband or male children, and relative.

A culture that keeps women from going to school.

A society that tells a women she can not work anywhere outside their home.

Those are examples of oppression of women.

Denying them the same rights and opportunities as men get.

The definition tends to be viewed differently from culture to culture - for instance, Muslims might view a woman's role as different, so she requires different roles and responsibilities. In the west, we tend to think of a role as being self determined, not thrust on you by gender.
