I recently made a Jedi robe with a deep hood and I wanted it to look cool like Anakin's when you put it on, but instead it slouches over my face and covers my eyes. I'm not sure how a wire would work through the hood, and how far back it should be without people noticing there is a wire there. Is there a way to make the hood more firm so that it can stay up like in the pictures of Jedi with their hoods on?

Here is a picture.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Yes, running wire through the outer hem will give it the shape and hold that you are looking for.

Have fun!

You could try an interfacing in the hood to make it stiff. Use a fairly thick one. The people in the fabric store can show you.

If you use wire, make it a very narrow wire from the beading department and put it right up front. If the hood is 2 layers, you should fuse the layers together so the wire will stay in place and be invisible. You can buy fusible interfacing for that purpose.

There is a cloth that you could iron into the inside of the hood that will make it stiffer and make it stay up and not droop. Go to a store that carries sewing items; Wal-Mart, fabric store like Joanne's, etc. and tell them what you are trying to do. They should have a stiffening fabric that can just be ironed on.

buckram would work we used it in the front of baseball caps when I worked in the factory sewing the caps together. It is a very stiff mesh.

Wire might work, or, if you can, attach it to your hair with bobby pins. They usually work when attaching things to your hair.
