My brother really wants to stop, but he thinks he can't. He masturbates too, and he wants to stop that. We are Christians,
but at puberty he started without knowing it was wrong and got stuck. Help! Christian answers preferred, please.

I'm asking for advice, personally, we believe it's wrong as a Christian, and just because a lot of Christians do it doesn't mean its right.
Being a Christian to us is having it affect your whole life, not just a Sunday show. And the Bible says that when you just look at a woman with lust you commit adultery with her in your heart.

No. It is truly my brother. I am not covering for myself. And not all people masturbate. That is a fallacy. A myth.

He is a computer expert and can break ANY filter. He even broke one that was rumored to be unbreakable, then sent a letter to the people who made it, telling them how, but they didn't care.

Obviously the subject of masturbation and porn is highly debated. Some people have claimed in their answers to your question that the Bible says nothing about masturbation, so it's not wrong. Whether or not there is a clear cut verse in the Bible about masturbation is not the issue. The fact of the matter is that you and your brother both agree that it is wrong and he has expressed a desire to stop. Breaking any habit is hard, but never impossible. I have a younger brother who has struggled with similar issues as well. As his sister, I cannot do the work for him or fix all his problems, but I can be praying for him, encouraging him in right things, and letting him know that I believe in him and love him no matter what.
It is awesome that you are both Christians, so remember above all, Jesus Christ died out of love for us so that we don't have to live in guilt and sin. Pray and encourage each other and also, take some practical steps to stopping this bad habit. Your brother knows when he is most likely to mess up again, so he should think of ways of avoiding these settings where it happens. If it is when on the computer, get software that blocks pornographic sites. If it is at night in bed, get up and do something else before the temptations get too strong. When the urge to do it again comes, find something else to focus on--occupy your mind with something healthy and distract yourself from the urges that lead you where you don't want to go.
I will say a prayer for you too. It is no fun to be stuck in a habit that leaves you guilt-ridden and feeling distant from God.

"Therefore, brothers, in view of God's mercy, offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-- his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Romans 12:1-2

I don't know that it's a good idea to make a religious issue out of this. There is no commandment in the Bible against masturbation. Onan didn't masturbate, he did something completely different, he failed to legally marry his brother's widow. Consummation being required by law at the time, thus he was really fornicating and desecrating her honor, thus the punishment. That said, if he has a moral difficulty with his behavior the only thing he can do is resolve to slow down to the point of stopping. Will power. The masturbation is harmless, the porn is probably harmless, too. If anything it prevents prostate cancer. So be encouraging and supportive, but be realistic, too. This is a choice he will be making because of a personal conviction, not because it is inherently wrong or harmful to him. Good luck.

Loss of semen drastically lowers testosterone levels and slows the metabolism.

Testosterone is responsible for:
# Maintenance of muscle mass and strength
# Maintenance of bone density and strength
# Mental and physical energy
# Male characteristics

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/testosteron...

The area most affected by loss of semen is the midsection, which is why so few americans have toned abdominals. If you want further evidence then watch any porn video online and look at the male actors. Not a single one has abs and most have no muscle definition at all. If sex is trully exercise like many americans think then these guys should be ripped.

Sexual tension is a myth. Sexual urges can be easily controlled once your sex addiction is eliminated. Tell your brother this so he has another reason to stop.

My husband and I are Christians and this temptation nearly ruined our relationship. We talked about it and came to the conclusion that I was more important than porn so I put this blocker on the computer. I can go through my day knowing that when he is on the computer he is staying out of trouble!

Masturbation is normal and harmless. Porn is neither. By watching porn one enriches the criminal organizations that produce this bilge, many of which are mob-connected. Watching porn supports the degradation of women. It plants ideas in your mind about the relationships between men and women which will interfere with healthy real relationships. Watching it also supports prostitution, as any man or woman who performs a sexual act for money is a prostitute, and having sex for money is exactly what there "actors" are doing.

He should learn to rely on fantasies or something else less pernicious to accompany his masturbation. It is a harmless way to release sexual tension without harming another person or putting oneself at risk for diseases. I know of no Biblical prohibition concerning masturbation, and I would not call it wrong, although it is simply not true that "everybody" does it. Porn is another matter. I don't use the word "evil" lightly, but porn IS evil.

Your "BROTHER" is really you , RIGHT??? no need to be embarassed, as 100% of people on the planet masturbate. Even every Priest, minister, monk, and guru.. Look at it this way, If GOD had not intended for us to masturbate, He would have made our arms SHORTER... And surly a being that could create all the heavens and earth could have made it so our SEX ORGANS didnt work untill we were married. That crap that we are given choice of temtation to test our strength in belief, and that we should just believe blindly, is just a cop out for all the things that the "idiot" that wrote the bible missed out on!
The porn thing is easy to stop, just dont make it avaiable to your self. But you are not likely to ever stop masturbating, as it is normal and very healthy for you.
Perhaps its time to get out of the dark ages, and joing the 21st century...

Sad to hear you are so uptight with religious teachings. Don't know in the bible where it says you shall not masterbate, and most masterbation is not to porn or lust of a woman, it is self-satisfacton so it is not lusting. Each person needs to decide what is right and wrong, and not sure why you feel you need to "cure" your brother or are watching him masterbate.

well if its a chronic. addicting habit you obviously cant just stop one day... if you have 2 take it one step at a time. Like for example he duz it 7 times a week,,, so try going 6 times a week and on the day that he does not do it,,, take him somewhere ro do something so he will get his mind off of it. Then after a few weeks., try 5 times a week etc... and after a while... his body will stop being dependant on it
