I would suggest you avoid place names and (extreme showbiz) celebrity names. You need to pick a name that will 'age well' as the child gets older and won't make her the object of ridicule in the school playground. Some celebrity names are ok. You don't want anything too boring but need something that 'ages well' and suits a 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 year old when your child reaches those ages as well as a young child. I would suggest you get a baby names book, look it up on the internet (you cn type in girls names or boys names and get a lot of choices), maybe go in gift shops where they sell personalised gifts with name plates and look at family/friends names too.

It is a personal choice but I like Eleanor, Jessica and Olivia for girls and Luke, Oliver, Thomas and James for lads.
Good luck with the birth.

Don't give her a name everyone has, like Susan or Mary and don't give her a new-invented name that nobody has, or she will be ridiculed later. No Sharleens or Narelles, cos they are too hickey. ASTOR is nice. JEWELL is nice. Get a book of unusual baby names and give her 4 names so she can use a different one from time to time. Make sure the initials don't spell something awful. Don't name her APPLE or something stupid like film stars name their kids. Tho Fifi Trixie-Belle has a nice ring to it, but it is the exception. If you are going to give her a foreign name like Natasha, make sure the surname doesn't sound too English or American or it will sound silly and unmatching. Someone did tell me that Fifi was traditiionally a housemaid's name in France, but I don't know about that. Think about how many other children and what sexes they will be, that you are going to have. You can't name one HELGA and then HELEN and ELIZABETH, cos it will sound like you adopted one from overseas. Don't name brothers IAN, JOHN AND JAN, because they are the same word except in different languages, FRENCH, ENGLISH AND DUTCH. What can cruel bullies at school make of the baby's name. Run some names past little kids you know and see what they immediately say about them. If it is an ordinary name but spelt differently, the poor kid will have to explain the spelling every time she gives her name to some official. Imagine saying something like this a million times in a lifetime - MY NAME IS KAATY, LIKE KATY BUT TWO AA'S TOGETHER. If you name someone Caitlin, she'll be having to spell it every time she tells some official too.

If you give her a name that could also be a boy's name, she could use it to her advantage to avoid sexism, eg KIMBERLY, ASHLEY.

There is no pressure to name a child immediately. It is ok to go so far as to bring your baby home from the hospital and name her later. Sometimes it helps to see the child, hold her and get to know her a bit before naming her.
I planned to name my youngest son Christopher and the name was even on the baby shower cake but when they brought him to me he looked at me with those bright brown eyes and I said " Hi Jeffrey" and Jeffrey it is.
Besides...what if it is a boy.
My husband jokingly says that all babies are born boys but the doctor yanks the weiners off the dumb ones.

Well Congratulations on your baby! I know she will bring you a lot of joy!

As for names, I think that is something you should pick. When she is older and asks how you chose it, you don't want to tell her someone on Yahoo Answers told you. Pick a name you've always loved, I'm sure you will make an excellent choice. =)

Good luck!

Pick a name that you love ... I named four of my five children for members of Dylan Thomas's family, because he is my favorite poet/writer in the world. I'm Irish, and the names are Welsh, but they 'fit' the kids. I named my first child Jason because I wanted a child who would travel well (he did, and still does) ... and don't be scared ... you will have your baby and you will love her and name her and raise her right ... but it IS 'scary' before they put that little bundle in your arms. I'll be praying for both of you ...

Care in naming your children. Something tha't cutsie when they are small, they won't like when they grow uo. I'm in
the prosess of getting a name change. I chose Deja Amina
and the last name is confidential. I like Ariyanna, Tamara
Ta-mar-a, Danielle and Monique. You can find cute nick-names in all of them and your daughter wont hate you when she grows. There are many other good names...try to be unique.
