If people under 18 are not considered responsible enough to be able to make decisions on alcohol ands it’s just been decided that people under 18 are not responsible enough to make decisions about tobacco. Then how can the government be considering lowering the voting age to 16??

If at 16 you are not responsible enough to decide for yourself whether to drink or smoke, then you certainly are not responsible enough to vote!

Thoughts?

my thoughts exactly. my son is serving in the Royal Navy and was when he was 17. he was considered mature enough to die for our country but not to have a drink or vote. it should all be 18 or 21. its just plain daft.

You will also note that at the age of 16 you can get married and have children and go to work. But you cannot have a drink of beer, a smoke or vote. Yes the law is stupid. Unfortunately our legal system is being slowly given away by these politicians for the even worse European solution.

In answer to your question, NO, politicians are not stupid (huge incomes, long holidays, lots of freebies) it is the public that is stupid for putting up with these weasley, greedy, lying, lazy, self centered parasites.

Most appear smart on their own side - pay rises, expenses, pensions funded by taxpayers.
If you are not old enough at 18 to make decisions about alcohol and cigarettes you should not be expected to go to war.
16 is a bit young to make these decisions and too young to vote.
Be clever. Become an MP and change things.

Your logic is flawed.

The ages were raised to buy harmful products in order to protect younger people and prevent alcohol related crime.

I doubt the voting age will be lowered to 16, as at that age people don't care about politics.

Politicians can be stupid, yes.

They are ONLY doing this is to have more people of age that can vote. The more people means you have a bigger population to sucker into voting for them. They don't give a crap about you or me. They just need the votes to stay in office/power. This is nothing more than greed on their part.

Generally, politicians are very clever people.

They persuaded you to elect them for a 4 year job with a very good salary and no minimum number of hours to work. Generous expenses are paid.

It was not long ago that most men and all women couldn't vote.

politicians are not stupid. its just new labour. you see they're so arrogant that they actually believe that they are too cleaver to have to think anything through. all they have they're traitorous heads into is the EU gravy train. occasionally they may look up and throw a quick fix at a problem. but only so they can get back to negotiating their fiddles and perks for when they have sold us out completely. this is about the 40 th time they've done this.

They think that they will get more votes. Imagine having the yob culture actually taking the trouble to vote, doesn't bare thinking about.

Young people need to have the right to do something at 16, not just have sex or leave school.
Anyway, it's an SNP idea, not a government idea.

I agree. And, there is no movement to lower voting age to 16. Wherever you got your information ,it is incorrect.
