The Ford Edge is a very reliable car. It offers a good ride and the gas mileage is good.

I am in love with my Honda Element. It's priced right, and is practical but still funky. My daughter has a Honda CRV, about the same price range, but less funky. A friend has a Toyota RAV4 that he raves about.
If you want something that retains it's value, and runs forever, I'd go with Honda.
As far as buying American, my Honda was made 100% in the US. If you look at some of the "American" made cars they are partially manufactured elsewhere.

Howabout the kind you can pay cash for? Then take the payment you would have had on one of the cars above ($400 or so) and bank it every month until you have enough to upgrade with your trade in, pay it all cash, then you've got nothing hanging over your head, and it's all yours.

I would go for the Ford Escape or the Chevy. Also, my next car will have a remote starter!

Honda Pilot is great value and resale. The Ford Escape or Edge is OK. Leasing is not for everyone that's for sure!
