Supposedly it was a true story and the family that "lived " through it wrote a book describing the events that took place. However , in a case like this who really knows if it was real or not. I have a tendency to be skeptical about such things. I read in the New York Post yesterday that the original house in Amityville, Long Island is on the list of "haunted places" in New York and you can visit it.

I remember when the book and the movie came out and yes they were saying that events in the house actually did happen. Funny though, I don't know how many people have lived in that house since the first book but why don't you hear anything about that house any more?

This kind of thing...........it's not for real. People are just looking to make some $ off of people who think it might be true is all.

A man named Ronald De Feo killed his entire family in that house in Amityville...that's the only true part. The rest is strictly Hollywood liberties. Look up De Feo for more on the story.

Based on a true story but highly twisted and exaggerated from the original story.

It is based on a true story. Key word here is 'based'. It's not a real story.

It is based on a true story. I live three blocks away. Although the murders actually occurred, the house is not haunted. They have changed the windows that look like the eyes on the house also, fyi.

It is based on a true story, sort of.
The original haunted house was a hoax. But the book and movie were based on the "official" hoax storyline.
