Doesn't have to embarrassment; excitement does the same thing. Take a class in Public Speaking; I did, got a "A" and had a lot of fun. You will learn how to speak to an audience and how to choose a topic that will be interesting and how to function while nervous/excited, etc. Really worthwhile; highly recommended.

I have this problem too.
Relax and take deep breaths before the speech helps.
If you can, ask to practice in a lecture hall in a building or college that might let you. Or to try to practice in front of a mirror.

Get a feel of crowd psychology! First, have a good glimpse of the crowd you are going to talk to, following which take a deep breath and then beging your talk slowly!

Practice talking in front of larger groups of friends and family.

It helped me to stand in front of a mirror and practice my speech. Do it until you feel comfortable.

Hope this helps.
