You rip a dvd in much the same manner as you would rip a cd, however you need to take into consideration whether or not this is a copywrited material. If it is, then it is illegal for you to copy the dvd and you could get into a lot of trouble.
With that said, if you are determined to go ahead, here are some links to information on the subject. All I did was type, ripping DVDs into my Google search box and I received a bunch of responses. Here is the link to the results page and a few of the links it contained: First, the results page:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=SUNA,SUNA:2006-50,SUNA:en&q=Ripping+dvds
Now, a few of the links the results gave me:
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/2006/08/28/all_you_need_to_know_about_ripping_dvds/
http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-DVDs
http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-a-DVD-to-an-AVI-or-MPG-File-Using-DVDx
This next one is not only providing instruction for ripping DVDs, but offers a self created software program to help in the ripping process. It is suppose to provide One Click ripping of DVDs.
Good luck and have a nice weekend.

For rip DVD, I recommend you to try Daniusoft DVD Ripper which I used good now. It could help you convert any DVD(protected DVDs) to AVI, WMV and other popular video/Audio formats in a good quality and >200% convertion speed.
Then put to Windows Movies Make to burn on a CD.
You can free download it here to have a try:

Well, I know how.
However, it is against copyright laws to do so, and that is why I shall not tell you how, and I discourage you strongly from doing it.
