Both genders can answer!

Masturbating is a healthy and natural thing to do. Unless you become obsessed and do it all day long it shouldn't be a problem. For men, it helps them learn to control their ejaculation for when they have sex and for women, it helps them learn how they liked to be touched so they can teach it to their partner. For both genders, it releases tension and stress.
I wouldn't worry too much about 'quitting' masturbating, just don't do it over a real person.

The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit. Make a COMMITTMENT to doing non-sexual things at the time of day you are used to using for masturbation. Sports are good, or anything else where other people are counting on you, so you have to be there. Avoid being alone at home -- keep your bedroom door open. Get somebody you trust to install a filter on your computer so you can't get to porn sites.

Develop a passion for something, whether it's running or chess or whatever interests you. Masturbating will then be seen as wasting time that could be spent on this other activity.

But don't knock yourself too much if you slip back into your old ways now and then. Masturbating can be healthy and normal as long as no porn is involved. But there are probably more productive ways to spend your time most days.

Why do you think it's a bad habit?

Did you know that regular masturbation may keep a man from getting prostate cancer later on in life, and keeps your sperm count healthy if not over done

Sexual desire is a natural, normal and beautiful thing. Don't let anyone brainwash you into thinking otherwise

just want to say it i snot a bad habit unless it controls your life. It is normal, healthy and natural. It is a stress reliever and for men it also helps prevent prostate cancer, not to mention help your control in the bedroom. now if it is taking over your life, id say to cut it down, butthat doesnt seem like the case with you. some people do it a cople times a day, some peole a few imes a week, but everyone does it, so it is not a bad thing. if you have to do it like 15 times a day, i would say you need to see a doc, but like i said, you dont seem to be obsessed with it, so dont worry about it.

Hey, I'm a woman and I masturbate once a day. It's not a bad habit. It's important to calm down, like smoking :)

Decide it is not a bad habit and enjoy it like everyone else. Lose the guilt trip.

Make up your own mind. Believe in your own will power. Every time you succeed in controlling the urge, pat yourself on the back.

Alternatively, every time you feel like masturbating, give yourself a punch in the nuts. That will keep the urge checked.

Its the reward and cane method!

I think you are assuming that it is a bad habit; unless your doing in public, or in front of children or something like that, perhaps it is not bad. Are you performing this "bad habit" like a zillion times/day? If your doing it too much perhaps you are a bit obsessed, and may need some couseling.
