My 2001 pontiac grand am is leaking coolant. If I fill it up with water and coolant it stays normal for about a day and then the low coolant light comes back on and the tank is empty. You can smell the coolant instantly after driving. I poured some water in the coolant tank to see where the leak was and it is like a leak of water that hits the ground as soon as I poured the water in the tank. The leak is in the front of the car towards the middle and it looks like its coming from a metal ring around another part of metal. I really don't know anything about cars. Could this be the radiator?

It's too hard to say what's leaking exactly as I would need to see it. What I can say is to stop driving the car. These don't have that much coolant in them to keep the motor's temperature low enough with this big of a leak without doing big damage to the motor. Get it to a shop or someone who knows what to do as it could be a simple hose or worse. Even in the worse case scenario it will be cheaper to fix it than replace the motor.

fill up your tank with water and then start the car drive around waste some gas then stop (dont turn the engine off) take a flashlight and look under the car you will probably see how bad and where its leaking and as some one already said above check your houses too while engine running

Sounds like maybe you have a bad hose. The metal ring you describe may be the hose clamp which holds the hose onto another part of the cooling system. Get it to a shop, if it's just a hose, the repair bill should not be much.

Probably an intake gasket and or head gaskets, especially if it is a 3.4L V6 .
