A microphone is required ONLY if you intend to use your own voice or record 'sound effects from everyday sounds in your house'. If you're serious, then just download some programs and play with them until you find the one that's right for you. Nobody on here can do that for you. It's just live and learn. The more you practice the better you'll get. So just do it. Mixing/Djing is just like playing an instrument. You can either do it or you can't but you want know if you don't PRACTICE THOUSANDS OF HOURS. Someone could teach you techniques to use, but that's just to incorporate into your own 'flow'.

If you already have drum loops then use Sony Acid to arrange them in. If you need to create loops I recommend Propellorheads Reason, but be aware this is a steep learning curve. You can also arrange loops and write in Cubase using VST instruments. You only need a microphone for live sound, such as recording a guitar, drum kit, or vocalist. If you do get a mircrophone, I suggest saving your money and getting a high quality condensor mic if you plan to master your recordings at home (you can rent microphones if you only need it periodically to save tons of cash). Of course if you plan to go to a studio for your final recordings then a cheapy will get you by. Good luck!
