They say that they are quite understanding each other , but they go on have the difference of opinion with their partners only. When compare to the difference of opinion they have with their partners is always more than what they have with others. Why it is so, Can you tell me one example or reason

You have the most invested in your life partner so its very important that you agree on things or at least accept willing that you agree to disagree. With friends, its not very important if you dont see eye to eye but when you share your life with a person you need to have some way to get along.

After being with him for 40 years and married to him for 38 years, I am not now with him, so, we are not life partners.
One difference was that I am a Theist and he is an Atheist.

That is too big a difference in spirit and practice to overcome when you are living with someone. I can tolerate friends with a different belief and they me, because it doesn't impact on our daily life. Something like this drives a wedge between people that destroys any bond they could have made.
I don't know if this is what you meant.
Partners have to share similar views or be exceedingly tolerant and compromising and supportive. If they can not, then it is a battleground.
