I have large family of brothers and sisters and yes I'm able to sit in silence with people around. Silence is golden. You can learn alot more about people by just listening to them.

Depends on the situation and who it is but I don't mind the silence. I have a brother.
I know someone who is the same way. He can't stand the silence and he is an only child. It would be an interesting study but I'm not sure there really is a connection.

I have two younger brothers, a step sister and a step brother, but the only person I can comfortably sit in silence with is my fiance. If i sit in silence with anyone else, it is usually because I am upset with them or don't know them

It depends on who I'm with. If I'm meeting a new person and we keep having moments of silence it can be awkward. If I know the person pretty well I can stand sitting in silence with them.
I have an older brother.

I rarely stay quiet when there is anybody near by.
I have an older sibling.
I don't like silence, but it has it's place at certain times. I like to chat and feel uncomfortable around others that don't. It seems a waste of time to just stay silent when you could communicate, you might as well not exist.

Well I was an only child untill I was blessed with a brother at the age of 17. So I was an only child through my childhood. I was always making my own ammusement and quite enjoyed my own company. I do enjoy to talk. But I prefer to be silent and just listen.

I can be in companionable silence easily, I unsettled my husband when he was a new husband because I had been talking almost non stop to him and then I didn't feel the need to talk and he noticed it, I told him, you are discovering I am almost as quiet as you. He rarely speaks, he was raised in a four child house he was youngest, I am oldest of two children

I think sitting in silence can be a much needed change of pace at times. I'm the youngest of 3 kids.

I can stand companionable silences with my "nearest and dearest" but I struggle with anyone else and usually have to break the silence. I am the eldest of 4 children and I am now 55 years old - smile.
