EC-500 or Les Paul Custom?

hey im having trouble deciding on getting a ESP EC-500 or a Epiphone Les Paul Custom(wine red). And could anybody tell me about any problems or anything about eaither one? There both in the $600 rage. Iv red the EC-500 plays better but its got a ugly finish but the epi has a beautiful finis so im kinda back and forwth on it. I know they both play nice but im just looking for a guitar to upgrade from my Silvertone Revolver and i can grow with. thanks
