1]. Aslong as you pay your bill on time - it's always on.

2]. More access - in some cases the coverage area for prepaid plans is limited moreso than if you're on a monthly plan.

3]. If you're into ringtones and other mobile phone media - then a monthly plan is the way to go. Things like texting your votes for American Idol, news alerts from various media groups and things of that nature aren't supported for prepaid plans. Basically you have MORE access to digital content on a monthly plan.

Your main objective should be to convince your parents that you won't be going over your allowed minutes every month.

I've had both, a pre-paid, and right now I have a plan. That's actually a good thing about my parents, I go out to skate, movies, mall, etc... and they like to keep track of me with my cellphone.

But trust me, a plan is way better.
This is what I had to do with a pre-paid
- buy a $30 pre-paid card they only give you like 90 minutes.
- they charge too much for text messages
- they charge you the phone all complete
- etc

right now I have a plan
- they only charged me $50 for my phone, but it has rebate so they're giving us back the money.
- I have 600 minutes for a month, and the plan is only $40.
- I have unlimited text messaging for only $15
- They also give you IM messengers. My favorite is Windows Live Messenger, and I always use it on my phone.
- They give me unlimited nights and weekends
- the list will go on.

It is really worth it, with a plan you can talk almost freely without caring how many minutes you waste. That's what I feel like.... not caring how many minutes I spend.

Get the plan.

it depends on how you want to use your phone, alot of text messageing and calls or to just have a phone to check in with home. I think you'll need a plan
