Pick something you feel passionately about if possible. A couple of ideas:

The great ape project - an attempt to give some non-human animal species basic human rights. (Lots to discuss about this! Do a search on "Great Ape Project" and you'll get lots of info.) Are humans "right" to treat the life & happiness of animals as of no or of little value while that of humans is considered to be of extreme value? What are the underlying cultural views here? Is the view, held by some, that animals have no consciousness & therefore can be treated like objects an unrealistic assumption considering the great number of other traits humans share with other species, especially other mammals? Is "speciesism" (there is such a word - look it up!) another form of prejudice in the same style as racism, sexism, & sexual orientation based prejudice?

Are mental health patients abused by the system? These are people who are psychologically very vulnerable and often in need of "tender loving care", of encouragement for better self esteem, of respect, and many other things. Instead they are treated very differently By the hospital their freedom is removed by sectioning, they are force fed drugs & when they object or try to argue against their treatment they are not taken seriously (as it's the illness talking). By the general public they are frequently stigmatised & seen as "the crazies". What are the arguments for and against the things I've just written? Are they true or not? What are the ethical issues here? Are there better alternatives (such as those proposed by psychotherapy)? (Some reading about R.D.Lang would be useful for this, among other things.)

i don't think mac vs. pc is a very interesting topic on it's own, however you could do something interesting. when mac produced the advert with david mitchell and robert webb, they used very obvious stereotypes, you could therefore use these instead of the actual computers themselves. you could talk about how people use computers as a reflection of their personality, or even how their choice of computers changes them, or that computers have no relation to you as a person and the mac advert is false. i just think that comparing the stereotypes of the boring uptight businessman pc user and the cool, laid back mac user would be a bit of a laugh and would get you extra credit for a bit of ingenuity, but i'm a mac user, so i'm probably too high to think intelligently anyway.
