It is a project at school. It has to be IN A BOX that is no bigger than 1000 cm cubed (yes, that is very small).

So, any ideas on: a. where to get a box and what it should be made of, and/or b. what i can put in the box to stop it from breaking.

The funniest solution I ever saw to this was to open a giant box of corn flakes, dig about halfway down, put the egg in, and seal the box back up. Works every time.

I have seen results of this many times. Your box will be too small but one of the best has been popcorn.
One that might work is gelatin. You could make a batch of jello and let it set up around the egg. It works by tranferring the force of impact symetrically over the surface of the egg.

wrap the egg in bubblewrap and put it in the box. try tying a small parachute to the box so that the fall wont be so fast and hard.

Put as much padding in the box as possible. And if there aren't any rules put some padding on the ground as well.
