...Other than U2. (*Shudder* - no offence to the U2 fans though.) I'm curious to see what the rest of the world thinks of our crappy music scene. ^_^

thin lizzy for that rock sound but the only irish musician was phil but for the blues and an excellent guitarist but sadly missed is rory gallagher he is someone the u2`s edge cannot come anywhere near in guitar feel
then gary moore is a fine blues and rock guitarist

regarding the edge its all chorus delay reverb and slap back echo and a few bar chords thrown in but it helped to sell millions of records so u2 did something right

Good heavens, i know, U2 just.. urgh.

I think Thin Lizzy is probably my favourite Irish Rock band.
I'm also quite fond of Stiff Little Fingers' earlier work.
=]

and although he isn't a Rock band, Van Morrison deserves a special mention, as my favourite Irish musician.

edit: I'm English, so i guess i'm not really "the rest of the world" hehe.

Crappy? We've got some pretty great bands, they just don't get the attention they deserve.

My personal favourite is probably The Immediate. Great band, and a huge shame that they're no longer together.

And what about The Frames, The Chalets, Fight Like Apes, Damien Rice, Si Schroeder, Fionn Regan, Simple Kid, Bell X1(I know they're quite poppy, but they're still pretty great), Delorentos, Declan O'Rourke...

Not all rock, but still really good.

from Japan

It's difficult to choose only one.

Taste (Rory Gallagher was an original member of the band)

Sweet Savage (Def Leppard's guitarist Vivian Campbell was a member of the band)

Of course I also like Rory Gallagher's solo works, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moor, The Cranberries.

The Pogues and The Frames are great but I'd have to say my favorite rock band rom Ireland is The Waterboys, particularly the Fisherman's Blues album. I thought they were long gone but they're in concert here in a couple weeks so I thik I'm going to have to go see them.

My Bloody Valentine, although two of their principal memebers were English they were formed and situated in Ireland. At a stretch...Stiff Little Fingers, who are Northern Irish...the isle is cursed and the people have no melody running through their fingers.

Ah hem: Dropkick Murphys are American. And no, I wouldn't have a problem telling them that to their faces.

My favourite Irish rock band, is sadly unsigned.

I found these guys on Myspace and they are awesome.

Take a look at Aviator shades.

I'm a big fan of rock and these guys will not disappoint.
