I support space exploration. And if this turns into a space race, then let it be so. But this is in no way a waste of resources. Everyone has an opinion about how best to spend tax dollars. And I have mine. The space program is not a waste, although NASA should be dismantled and a new space agency take over. To much bureaucracy in NASA.

Well, the space race is more of a walk today...
The "race" is not a waste of natural resources. Drugs are a waste of natural resources. Anger is a waste of natural resources. Pollution is a waste of natural resources. Non-efficient use of energy is a waste of natural resources.
The space race spun off satellites... think how many lives have been saved with cell phones, GPS, satellite imaging. Not to mention cell phones, satellite tv and radio. etc.
Deep down, aren't you glad the human race put a man on the moon? Just knowing we did it? What else can we do?

And exactly where is the money wasted? The value of anything launched into space is nothing more than its scrap metal value.
99% of the cost of construction is spent here on Earth providing JOBS and scientific research that produced all the gizmos that you love. Your colour TV, computer, cell phone, TV programs, weather reports, non stick pans, the elastic in your knickers in fact just about everything that has been invented since 1959.
The wages paid to construction workers go back to the government as taxes or to buy food from farmers, build churches and schools and send their kids to school.
Or would you prefer, like moron Bush, to invade other countries and kill civilians so your military expansion can keep the american economy running?

Exact opposite, things have been invented for space exploration that have improved everyday life for everyone on earth. The weather forecasts come from satellites that are in space do to the space race, and don't forget about that cell phone you have. Just where do you think the 200 hundred+ channels you get on your TV come from?
