In the tv show ER, i was wondering what happen to Peter Benton's character?

All the sudden, he wasn't written in anymore in the show, and i haven't seen an episode that shows him leaving or anything. That whole story about Reece, and Carla, and everything just disapeared. Can anyone help me out?

On the last episode that Peter was on he announced that he had taken a job as a small town doctor in Kansas.

He dated for while then went a clinic/ a write out of series for good had problems with prducers didn't get enough play!! had to grow somewhere else..
