What a great question!!

Yes, intellect does serve our desires........ and only when reined in through wisdom that intellect can begin to shape our desires and that is the emancipated state of being.

If that were true, why would we stop crapping our diaper. If the intellect was a subordinate for desire that would be a one-sided notion compared to reality in which mind has positive (desire being as a positive) AND negative internality (shame being as a negative). The Will is positive, the Judgment is negative.

To acquire intellect is also a desire. Desire is the prime mover for the individual. It is not the boss though.

To get along in this world one has to have the desire . This , combined with acquired knowledge and intellect guides the individual to handle better his life in the world.
Problem , though , is the endless call of desires .

Desire is borne of knowledge. We cannot desire what we do not know about, and if it is something known to our mind only, we can invent it. The intellect is the sum effect of perceptions on our epistemology, percepts which are then "integrated" with one or more percepts to create concepts. Concepts strung together are "discursive" in nature, and it is discurse that is real intellect--our ability to string those thought into cohesive, rational propositions.

well, i've been reading frued lately
and he recconned there where layers to the human psyche, the super- ego, the id and the ego.
the super ego is intellect, it is all those social rules we learn
the id is baser desires; food, sex ,sleep etc
and the ego is the sense of self, that has to try to find balance between the two.
which makes sense to me,
[i think this is now considered very basic but... oh well.]

so, in conclusion, the intellect AND desire are subordinate to the ego...or vice versa...

Intellect and desire are not coordinates. They're unequal bedfellows. It's like comparing the soul to your condom.

No....everything is subject to the "will"...(unless you are an addict in some way..) everything comes together at the focal point of the will...and usually, weak-minded persons are weak-willed ones also....but not always.....(this is not to be taken as gospel..)

Usually, but sometimes it can get too wild and become insubordinate.
