Rabbit babies (bunnies) are born naked and blind, while hare babies (leverets) are born ready to run. Bunnies stay in the nest and are warmed and protected by their mothers until they are furry and their eyes open, and can hop around. Leverets immediately start supplementing their mothers' milk with grass and weeds.
In general, hares have longer legs and longer ears than rabbits.
The American jackrabbit is actually a hare.

as far as I know the main difference is the size of the back feet. Hares are what are usually called jack rabbits, and they have larger back feet which enable them to jump faster.

They are NOT the same species. They differ in whether they are precocious or altricial and whether they dig their own burrows.
