Im a Filipino. My friends too are also. But they dont like it. If ask by our teachers which do you like, Philippines or western countries? Of course they would choose the western countries. I answered philippines and my classmates teased me for the answer. They said its worse than africa. I dont agree with all their opinions. And I also think that africa is not bad. How should I feel?

I've lived in the US, Philippines, and Japan in my life. I definitely prefer living in Asia (Japan, Philippines) than living in the US.

Just civililly argue your points with those who say the Philippines is worse than African nations. I've also argued with those who questioned why I'd prefer living in Japan or the Philippines more than the US.

I think they don't love their on skin then. Did you ask them why they are still staying here in the Philippines? I guess so, because they were born as a Filipino. And they don't know that those western people really envied our own skin.

The only problem we are facing right now was our government. The rest are good enough.

I'm an American and am engaged to a Filipino woman in Dumaguete, Negos Oriental. When I visited there I was very impressed with the friendliness of the people. I know it's hard to make much money there but the families I met were very close and value good friends. I felt like I traveled back in time to 1960 in many ways. I was happy to see the women weren't covering themselves with tattoos like many American women. I think the Filipino women have alot of class and the ones I met seemed more traditional in wanting to be a good wife caring for her husband and family. I was there on Palm Sunday and enjoyed seeing the whole city turn out to celebrate with palm leaves. I will be moving there in three years just because I like it so much and think the U.S. culture is getting sicker by the day.

As I always say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am glad that you still chose the Philippines over western countries. You and your friends may disagree on this, but I hope you still meet eye to eye. Please stick with what you believe in, people these days rarely do.

And just to show you that the country is still worth fighting for, there are a million things to be proud of...the continuous strengthening of the peso, our well-kept natural resources and best of all our warm and friendly people.

Of course I love our country, and I can stand up for it no matter where I go. It's to each of their own. Don't mind your classmates if they teased you. If you believe in something, then stand up for it. Your classmates don't probably really know anything about our country thus having those misconceptions. You can prove them wrong if you want to in so many ways.

You should act with dignity and remain resolute in the face of your friends' teasing. Be very proud of your heritage: that they cannot take away from you. Do not allow their insolence diminish even slightly your devotion to your country. If you do, you might as well spit over the graves of our great forefathers who gave up their lives fighting to protect the freedom you are enjoying now.

I'm happy for you and I'm sad about your Filipino Friends...you are very matured, unlike them...Filipinos are very proud of you...one thing I guess we should bring back our warm friendliness coz I notice it's becoming cold. So maybe we can start it now...show to your friends what it takes to be a real Pinoy...be proud!
