The misfiring is what causes the catalytic converter to go bad in the first place. The poor acceleration comes about as the converter stops up from the catalyst breaking apart and the ticking is probably an exhaust leak caused by the high exhaust system pressure. You need to replace the converter and repair the misfire problem>

WHat makes you thinl you have a clogged cat ? Is you check engine light on ? If so - go to the local chain auto store & ask them to pull the codes & tell you what is wrong .. To answer you question - a clogged cat WILL make you engine barely run - not usually misfire - ticking sound if under the hood is not a cat - under the car maybe - particularly if the cat is over heating because it is loaded with fuel ..

Don't guess, a misfire should be stored in the computer, get the codes read. Proper diagnosis will save you money, instead of guessing and throwing parts on the problem.

A clogged cat. with cause your eng. to run poor and will cause damage to the eng. It will smell like rotted eggs, and has to be replaced, no you can't clean it out.
