I'm 19 weeks pregnant and just found out my next door neighbour's chld has worms! I have two other children, 3 years old and 19 months old and they all play together. If by some chance I have caught this is there any danger to the baby?

I don't understand why some people try answering questions they know nothing about worms is very common in children who play outside they pick it up from playing in dirt and then putting fingers in their mouth before washing hands! So don't judge people!

I have had worms before when pregnant ( my kids like playing with mud). I simply went to my pharmacy and checked with the pharmacist who said that the medication was safe during pregnancy. When you have kids its very difficult to keep things like that at bay, especially if like mine they play with mud in the garden!

In general, no. I dont know if the medication is safe when pregnant or not- but in most cases the worms just keep your body from absorbing nutrients to restock what the baby depletes.

Beyond that, its very common for children to get worms fro each other- kids are dirty. Its not so common for the adults in the situation to. You simply dont eat as much filth as they inadvertently do.

Call your doctor. I don't think it's a real big deal. You most likely have not caught them anyway. They are not that easy to catch. Worm your kids if you need too, and call your OB.

You should be fine. As far as I'm aware you can't treat children under two anyway. If it's threadworms it's only an irritation and not dangerous. I would think you can't treat yourself though until you give birth. You can buy medication over the counter at most chemists so you can always treat everyone in the family you can as a precaution.

my son had worms when i was pregnant and the doctor treated him and gave my husband medication, just in case, but it wasn't safe for me to take medication too. So you cannot be prescribed anything.

For concise, accurate medical information, I would call my family doctor or gynecologist, and not rely on the haphazard responses you would get on Yahoo Answers. Honestly, why do people ask medical questions on here.

It's just as easy to call your doctor as it is to sit here and type a question. Phone calls are free.

Edit: My answer was legitimate, you ARE asking a medical question to a largely non medical answering populace., Was this not your question - "If by some chance I have caught this is there any danger to the baby?"

I've heard of this. Many of the worms in small children come from undercooked food or food ridden with bacteria. It's disgusting business. I wouldn't allow your child to play with this kid until you've spoken to a health care professional about how the worms are passed. Not only are these a danger to your kids, but to you also since you are pregnant. Call your doctor immediately!
