I don't but am interested in the Salem Witch Trials. If you are interested, read "Beyond the Burning Time" by Kathryn Lasky. It is a fiction book but uses characters from the real Salem Witch Trials.

I do believe in witches, The Southwest has witches called the Lechusa which is basically an owl that the witch has turned into. There is a ceremony that you can perform to call on the witch but it is very dangerous.

Also if you are visited by the Lechusa, it is a dark omen of things to come. It is a common belief that after the encounter strange things will happen to that person or their family. This includes unexplained happenings and terrible accidents including death. One would then seek the help of a "curandera" or healer. Curandera's are also considered to be witches by the Church.

We have been battling this very thing with my oldest daughter and it is my belief that someone started the process against us out of jealousy or revenge. We are from a small town and lots of old beliefs are still practiced even though we are all raised as Catholics.

Witch as in the "flying on the broom" type witch that the "judges" of the Salem Witch Trials claimed witches to be? No. That image was directly from their twisted imaginations.

Witch as in a practitioner of Earth Based Religions who studies life and all within this world... definitely. I know several online and offline.

I'm not sure. I believe in being able to control nature to make things happen after proper training and conditioning, but I don't believe that people are born with the skill, or that a simple "hocus pocus" is what magic really is.

That's almost like asking, "Do you believe in Christians, or Muslims, or Atheists?" Many pagans, and Wiccans in particular, call themselves witches. Doesn't mean they are green and evil. Doesn't mean they can or would ever want to turn anyone into a frog. But they are witches none the less.

The "Hansel & Gretel" cook the kids witch? NO.
Practitioners of pseudo-Wicca? Yes. ( The real heathen Wicca died years ago, and the new one is an 18th century fake)
