I live in Hampshire, near where the governement are about to do just that. They are demolishing a whole council estate that is substandard. Last year a flat there sold for £10,000. They are moving tenants out in a rotation (i.e. building the new homes to put them into before they turf them out.) and they have said that they will be using compulsory purchase orders for people who refuse to sell the houses. It's going to do the area the world of good, as it is a notorious drugs and violence haven!

Totally agree with you, have said this as a reply to similar questions about lack of housing and over building without the proper infrastructure. It is criminal that perfectly good housing is standing empty when people are homeless and councils pay a fortune to unscrupulous landlords for B & B for them(mostly foreigners have these properties too).

Because the effect of such legislation would affect Councils and Housing Associations more than anybody else?
